Last Week in Trains

Shiny Happy Stansted Express Trains

For those of you who are not fans of the Stansted  Express, you’ll be happy to learn that last week  saw the first of 30 four-car shiny new Stansted Express trains unveiled. Read the full article here.

The Folding Bike Ammendment

16th October 2010 saw a re-think on the British train ban for folding bikes. 20in wheels will no longer be banned and the limit has now been reduced to 90cm x 70cm x 30cm. Anything bigger may need a ticket for it which could cost up to half a fare.

When I spoke to Wendy Johnston of Sustrans she said, “Sustrans is absolutely behind integrated travel – making it easier for people to do the whole of their journey more sustainably…

Of course, the aim of folding bikes is to make it easier and more convenient for people to cycle to and from the train station at either end of their train journey, rather than taking their cars, which should really be encouraged.”

  1. Nice one Sophie. Last week in trains, like it!

Will the new Stansted Express trains be any faster than current ones then? I actually prefer the Nat Express coaches whenever I do (whisper it) fly via Stansted as they’re quicker and a fair bit cheaper.
Good news on the folding bikes u-turn though.
Anyone else remember Bicketons? Great, cheesy ads with that funky scifi soundtrack from the 80s which were always shown in cinemas for some reason: ‘Go bag a Bickerton!’
    Here you go:
Good I feel old re-watching this!

    • Thank you. And thanks for all the support!

Um… I cannot confirm whether they will be any quicker. Obviously I never, ever fly anywhere ; ) (I do honestly dislike planes).

What an amazing video! I wonder if you can still get them? I bet you can. Hang on… there’s one.
